The year is 1629, Rosaira ascended to the throne three years past and is deeply concerned for her country’s future.

During the turbulent reign of her great, great, great-grandfather, Romulus IV, the Church of Portina came became the dominant religion. It's strength was a boon during those times of war, drawing believes to fight for their country in the name of god, and conquering their enemies! Yet in the years of peace that followed, the Church of Portina continued to exert it's influence in more mundane matters. Great protocols for each day of the week were observed, ritual and regulation grew to grand proportions - and any who spoke against the church, or who dabbled in magical arts, were branded heretics and condemned to death.

Queen Rosaira sees the seeds of discontent beginning to germinate amongst her people.

Of the past three score and ten years, a great number of children have been born possessing curious powers, each one different from the next though many strangely related in some way. These powers were kept hidden, like some horrible affliction... while murmurs against the Church's unyielding position grow more discontent.

On the day of her coronation, a large winged creature was spotted flying low over the castle. Perhaps it is simply hopeful whispers... but some say it was the legendary Phoenix, the symbol of the royal family, ushering in a new era of magic.

Meanwhiles, Queen Rosaira single-handedly tries weaken the churches hold... but the Cardinal and his rituals of two centuries are hard to dislodge - and she dare not exile the man who is the figure head for Portina's historic strength against her enemies.

Rosaira has called the nobles of her country to come to the Palace Questriana, under the guise of a celebration - yet she really hopes to gain support in quelling the power of the church.

With the planned festivities come great influxes of Merchants/ Entertainers/ Servants to the town of Avenala nestled at the feet of the palace, their eyes bright and merriment filling the air as grand prospects seem to open up before them... many coins changing hands.

The highlight of the celebrations shall be a grand feast in just one month's time...

Whether your home is in the rambunctious streets of the Avenala , or decorum filled halls of the Palace Questriana , your quest remains the same, for even the humblest ones may raise themselves to become a life most significant.

Come weave your tale into the rich tapestry of life in the realm of Portina, where fame or notoriety capture the eye equally… will your name be whispered of under the cover of dark secrecy or heralded with the brazen adoration any hero might find.
