In the beginning were the three brothers, Fauros, Vanya and Aesir, who dwelt in the Courts of the Heavens beyond the outer sphere of night's darkness. For aeons the brothers lived among the Great, delighting in the peace of that realm. Yet to dwell in peace was not their fate, and often strife broke out between them, for their anger was quick to kindle yet slow to cool. The Courts of Heaven were disturbed by the warring brothers, and they were brought before the Highest Council who declared their banishment and cast them out into the Void.
And so the brothers went out into the Void, where there was no peace, and their warring clashed throughout the firmament as a great storm of wind and flood and lightning. Two ages, an age and half an age the brothers fought, until they reached the very depths of the Void and their violence ceased before a wondrous sight. So it was, in the uttermost reaches of the Void, they first saw Gourna, the earth mother, curled and sleeping in the darkness. A new stirring came into the hearts of the brothers, the warmth of love, which they had never known before. Possessed of Gourna's peace and beauty they ceased their battles and all contrived how they could win her for themselves.

First came Vanya in the shape of a great cloud, and drawing close to Gourna he wept with joy at her serenity. His tears fell on her as rain, and they collected together to form rivers and lakes, seas and oceans, and Gourna was grasped in his watery embrace. So it is that in the depths of the ocean Vanya still dwells in bliss, holding deep to Gourna.
