This page is for fellow webmasters, Internet addicts or anyone interested in GameWyrd. Alexa is a very large and respected web analysis company that’s owned by Amazon. One of the things Alexa does is try to work out which are the most popular websites. Alexa sells some of this information and gives other bits away for free. Advertisers want to advertise on popular websites and other webmasters will want popular websites to link to theirs. Alexa gives away a free toolbar that allows its users to quick-search Google or Amazon and find information about the site they’re visiting. It’s this tool bar that keeps track of the pages people visit and allows Alexa to work out which are the popular ones. The Wyrdmaster is using the Alexa tool bar. It’s genuinely useful. It’s great to be able to search Google in the blink of the eye and it’s nice to be able to visit RPG sites for the first time and see a summary of other RPG sites similar to them. Here’s the kicker, since the Wyrdmaster visits GameWyrd all the time (d’uh!) he can be sure that at least one Alexa toolbar user is visiting the site and that helps boost GameWyrd’s official popularity. The sidebar on the right shows GameWyrd’s current traffic stats. Oh. The Alexa toolbar lets you manage (read: suppress) pop-up adverts too! You can download a free Alexa toolbar here. Alexa lets Internet users write reviews for websites.
